Ella’s Story

Ella's Story - Jabbermouths, speech and feeding therapy

I wanted my daughter to talk. I watched and learned from several speech therapists. I would do the homework with Ella, and frustration after frustration left me researching for something more. All I wanted was for Ella to talk! I found some information online about oral motor therapy- this sounded interesting to me since Ella was diagnosed with low muscle tone. Jenn described Oral Motor Therapy as “physical therapy for the mouth”- slam dunk! This was what we needed.

Enter Jenn Buck…….

What I have witnessed from Ella working with Jenn is PROGRESS.

Ella's Story - Jabbermouths, speech and feeding therapy

When we first started with Jenn 2 years ago, Ella would make more progress in her 1 hour with Jenn than she would with 5 or more sessions of traditional speech therapy! Two years later, Ella SPEAKS! AND to top it off- her, traditional speech therapy sessions are more productive because of the oral motor therapy component. Jenn has written homework and exchanged emails with our traditional therapist to help her be more productive with Ella as well.

I am so grateful to Jenn for what she has done for my sweet Ella. If you think something is missing with your speech therapist or that traditional speech therapy just isn’t doing enough, Jenn is your missing link.

*Ella’s Update

Child receiving speech therapy for oral-motor skills

Jenn has incredible knowledge. In addition to her knowledge base, she has a character about her, which gets the job done- and done well.  We transitioned to a consultation model, seeing Jenn every 6-8 weeks, and I have to admit, without having her available weekly or even monthly, I was worried we would lose touch. This was hardly the case as Jenn has been fantastic at communicating with our family- inclusive of other speech therapists and team members working with our daughter.

The long distance relationship is still very beneficial as Jenn’s “check-ins” every 6-8 weeks keep us on track. It does help having a team (speech therapists at home and school as well as daily habilitators) which work with Jenn to execute our daughter’s speech and oral placement/apraxia program. Again, I cannot emphasize enough how Jenn’s emails and videos we have taken in the past have been incredibly resourceful for training purposes.

Child receiving oral-motor speech therapy to learn to talk

We are very grateful to Jenn for training the school and home team with her knowledge. Keeping everyone on the same page, working together, with that one goal: getting our daughter to communicate to the best of her ability.

I am a parent of a daughter who is now 10. She has no syndrome- just some silly little microdeletion on a chromosome. She has issues with her tongue movement, velopharyngeal closure, and facial tone. She has problems processing how to form words. But she doesn’t want a device. She doesn’t want to sign. She wants to TALK! Jenn and the team she has trained are making this happen. Progress every day. Every single day. And until that progress comes to a standstill, I am not giving up hope that she will talk beautifully someday.      -Chad & Carly P.
